FRED PERRY - ICE LAUREL

An 8 week lead time from design to completion and a sculpture that had to achieve an ice-like, translucency, without exposing any glue marks, fixings or joins – not easily done!

The 3D form was modelled using ZBRUSH animation software. Once converted through AUTOCAD, the 5 AXIS CNC was used to generated 3D tools from which the laurel was vac-formed in clear PETG in a series of parts. UV glues and intricate push fit flanges achieved imperceptible seams.

 Each sculpture stood 2meters high.

The surface was treated with snow spray, loose snow particles and shimmering ice sparkle, built up by hand to resemble a realistic frost, heavy in the centre and melting away to a clear and glass like face.

A bespoke ice decal, printed in white ink to optically clear vinyl, framed the installation.

We created 19 sculptures for the UK, EU and US.
